Discovering Antalya

Among ancient ruins and tourist centers, Antalya has become a symbol of tourism in Turkey. The city shows artistic signs of a long past dominated by different civilizations along with natural wonders. Let's discover Antalya!

1- Perga

The first of some ancient sites to visit is the city of Perga, about 15 kilometers east of Antalya. Perga was inhabited in early 1209 BC, and was ruled by the Persians, the Athenians, Alexander the Great, the Seleucids and then the Romans. Among the excavations of Perga there is much to discover, such as the agora and its intact pillars, the Roman theater, the Roman baths, the necropolis and the great gates of the city.

2- The Old Port

Walking through the alleys of Kaleiçi is only a matter of time before reaching the old port that gave birth to Antalya. Surrounded by the crenellated walls of the old town, the quays of the port are the starting point for boat trips to places like the Düden waterfall. Walk to the lighthouse at the entrance to the port for a full view of the quays, piers, the rocky coast of Antalya and the strong defensive walls.

3- Kaleiçi

Antalya
As you make your way through the alleys of Antalya's historic center, you will find a number of traces of the city's distant past. One of the structures that defines the silhouette of Kaleiçi is Minare Kesik. This mosque, badly damaged by a fire in the 19th century, is a mixture of a Roman temple and a Byzantine basilica. Another icon of the city is the crenellated clock tower at the entrance to the old town, opposite the Tekeli Mehmet Pasa mosque from the 17th century.

4- Gozleme

Gozleme are usually translated as Turkish pancakes, but are better described as substantial and tasty crepes. They are always cooked on an open grill and can be filled with cheese, potatoes, spinach or minced meat, accompanied by a salad of tomatoes, cucumbers and parsley.
