Venetian specialties

Venetian gastronomy comes from the many influences that the city has experienced over the centuries. Between oriental heritage, seafood specialties from the nearby lagoon and Veneto wine, you will be delighted. Here are 4 specialties:

1. The risotto di Go

The Go or Gobiidae fish is abundant in the Venice lagoon. They are small fish that are used in broths. For example, the risotto di Go is based on this broth.

2. Cuttlefish ink pasta

You will find this dish in all Venetian restaurants, it is, as its name suggests, pasta prepared with cuttlefish ink. Even if its black appearance may surprise you, its taste remains particularly good. It is often cooked with onions, wine and tomatoes.

3. Ciccheti

Ciccheti are the tapas of Venice. They are perfect for your aperitifs but you can just as well compose your meal entirely of ciccheti. In the form of small pieces of bread topped with fish, meat or vegetables, cicchetti are eaten with a glass of Spritz. At the end of the day, go to a bàcaro, these are the small bars where an impressive variety of ciccheti are served.

4. Fritelle alla Veneziane

These fritters are delicious doughnuts sprinkled with sugar. It is the most typical pastry of the Venice carnival. They are usually enriched with candied fruit, pine nuts and sometimes with custard.
