4 dishes to taste in Tunis

Tunis has a very vast and varied culinary heritage. The diversity of its gastronomy is due to its culture mixing East and West. Here are 4 dishes to be tasted during your escapade in Tunis:

1. The chakchouka

This dish is common in the Maghreb countries. But each country has its particularity. In Tunis, it is prepared with soft-boiled eggs, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, garlic and spices, all of which are tempered in olive oil.

2. The méchouia salad

It is a salad of grilled vegetables. There are tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and the whole is sprinkled with olive oil, garlic and coriander. It is often served with olives, tuna, capers or hard-boiled egg quarters.

3. Kftas

Kftas are meatballs with potato or fish with onions, parsley and egg.  In Tunisia, they are crushed before being fried. A Tunisian must-try that you must absolutely taste.

4. The baklawa

The baklawa is a dessert of several layers of very thin puff pastry filled with almond and dried fruit, coated with rose water. This cake is recognizable by its triangular shape and the sugar syrup that surrounds it. Beware, it sticks! It is generally found during festivities.
