1- Dizi

Also known as 'Abgoosht', this dish of meat and bean soup dates back hundreds of years. It is essentially a stew of lamb and chickpeas based on tomato. It is usually served in a stone dish called dizi, hence the name.

Another traditional dish that is generally served in winter is Ash Reshte soup. Rich and delicious, this soup is made with chickpeas, beans, spaghetti and herbs in abundance.

3- Kebab

If you go to dinner in an Iranian restaurant you are likely to be served kebabs and Iranian rice. Iranian-style kebabs are known to be particularly succulent and tender, and are available in several varieties including koobideh, barg, chenje and bakhtiari.
 

4- Khoresht Gheimeh

Khoresht Gheimeh is a stew of beef and broken peas made with dried lime and cooked in a tomato base, usually served with fried potatoes on top. In the month of Muharram, a holy month in the Iranian calendar, this dish is cooked and served on the street.
