What to taste in Malaga

From the Mediterranean cuisine of the coast to the typical products and dishes of the inland villages, the gastronomy of Málaga is rich. Here are 4 specialities:

1.  Ajoblanco

Ajoblanco (also known as "white garlic") is a cold Andalusian soup. The recipe for this typical soup can vary from one region to another. The best known in Málaga is the Axarquia region. It is made with almonds, garlic, vinegar, salt, water and olive oil.

2. Málaga Salad

This typical Spanish salad from Malaga is very colourful. It is made with cod, oranges and olives, seasoned with green virgin olive oil. A perfect dish to eat in summer!

3. Mountain Plateau

Called "El plato de los montes", this hearty dish will satisfy you. It is the famous dish of the Mounts and can be tasted in many "ventas" (taverns on the road). This dish was born at the beginning of the 20th century and was the favourite of the muleteers who used to cross the mountains with their loaded animals. They needed a caloric meal to gain strength and continue on their way. This plate is made up of lomo, chorizo, pepper cooked in oil, an egg, and chips.

4. Fish frying

The most typical element of Málaga cuisine is without a doubt the "pescaíto frito" (fried fish). The fish served are often these: anchovies, red mullet, small squid, cuttlefish, dogfish, dogfish, etc. This essential dish is accompanied by several lemon wedges to be squeezed over the frying pan, as you wish.
