Dishes to try in Lamezia Terme

The Calabrian cuisine is varied and rich: many dishes were then exported to the rest of Italy and the world with important variations but in Lamezia you will still find typical recipes!

1- Zeppole

The "zeppole" (or Zippuli) are delicious fried Calabrian fritters. The basic dough, consisting of flour, water, yeast, boiled potatoes and a pinch of salt, is more often enriched with anchovies, but because of their popularity there are many variations: among the most popular are those filled with cheese, dried tomatoes, olives, or even the sweet version.

2- Morzello

Morzello is a traditional dish from Catanzaro. Known in the local dialect as Morzeddhu, it is made with tripe and veal offal, tomatoes, chilli peppers, bay leaves, olive oil and oregano. The ingredients are simmered for at least a couple of hours. Traditionally, morzello is eaten with a local bread called "pitta".

3- Baked peppers

Lamezia Terme
Baked peppers are a traditional Italian dish of roasted peppers with parsley and garlic. The peppers are roasted until they begin to blacken. The peelings are then removed, the stalks and seeds removed and the peppers are torn into smaller strips. They are sprinkled with garlic, salt and parsley.

4- Ginetti

This Calabrian delight is traditionally prepared for Easter, but it is also commonly found at other times of the year. Ginetti cookies are made with a base of flour and eggs and are typically flavoured with aniseed and lemon zest. They are first baked in water, then baked in the oven and finally glazed.
