Dishes to try in Barcelona

The Catalan capital is a destination full of attractions: culture, history, leisure ... and gastronomy! Let's discover some dishes to enjoy in Barcelona.

1-Tomato bread

It is a classic among the classics, what a great invention! It is simple but delicious and is part of the Catalan gastronomic identity. The first reference to this union of bread and oil, today something very elementary, dates back to the houses of the Cayes at the end of the 19th century. The secret? A good bread to sprinkle with a little salt in advance. It follows the tomato, which is cut crosswise and rubbed on the bread and olive oil. And why not accompany it with a good raw ham?

2- Butifarra

Another of the most recognizable culinary proposals of the Barcelona recipe book. It is a kind of thick black pudding, made with pork, and we find it in various types and cooked in various ways, whether raw, fried or grilled.

3- Calçots

You could say that it is a variety of onion, very common in the interior of Catalonia. It is consumed mainly between winter and spring and is prepared in various ways, with romesco sauce or salvitxada. It is a healthy and delicious dish that is not as well known by the "general public" as the others.

4- Bikini

The mixed sandwich, ham and cheese, is not just anything. It is difficult to find a really good one and the truth is that in Barcelona we will find places that masterfully manage their seemingly simple recipe. The Catalans have even changed its name, since in these parts it is known only as "bikini". The reason? The famous Bikini Room, an entertainment venue that opened its doors in 1953 and where this French sandwich was served.
