Dishes to enjoy in Malta

The Maltese cuisine is complex and full of influences and traditions that go to compose more or less exotic dishes. Here are 4 to taste:

1- Pastizz

The pastizz is the Maltese street food par excellence; you can find pasta shops in every district and they are frequented especially during the morning. This is in fact the Maltese people's favourite snack for a mid-morning snack: basically it is a puff pastry filled with peas or ricotta cheese and then fried.

2- Gbejina

One of the typical cheeses to enjoy absolutely is gbejina, a fresh cheese from Gozo, but also pecorino with pepper is very characteristic and is found in all meals based on typical Maltese products.

3- Qaghaq tal-ghasel

Malta
Thinking about sweets, besides the Turkish influence and therefore to find desserts similar to baklava, one of the most popular is the Qaghaq tal-ghasel, a typical Christmas cake, but now found everywhere all year round; they are honey pasta rings filled with carob syrup and figs.

4- The wines

Maltese wine is one of the typical products of the island. The climate, very similar to the Sicilian one, allows an excellent and rapid ripening of grapes and wines rich in colour and gradation. The native grape varieties such as Ghirgentina and Gellewza remain well anchored to traditions, but are flanked by international varieties such as the Italian Vermentino and Sangiovese, or the more classic Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

These are just some of the delicacies to taste in Malta, do not miss the opportunity to taste them in person! Find now your flight to Malta with Jetcost!
Malta
Malta lies between Sicily and the North African coast. It is actually an archipelago of three islands. Most of the population lives in Malta, while the second largest, Gozo, is known for its beaches and landscapes. Comino, the smallest island, is only 3.5 square kilometers.
