Tips for a trip to discover Chennai

Chennai, also known as Madras, is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu, southern India, on the coast of the Gulf of Bengal. An important administrative and cultural center, the city is full of attractions, activities and tasty dishes to try! Here are some tips for a trip to discover Chennai:

1- Visit the artists' village

The Artists' Village of Cholamandal, founded in 1966 on the southern outskirts of Chennai, was created by the artists who live there. The artists purchased the common land and built their homes, studios, gallery, theatre and workshops. The village is renowned for being the pioneer of the Madras Art Movement, which brought modern art to southern India.

2- Enjoy the view from the Chennai lighthouse

The Chennai Lighthouse is located next to Marina Beach, with a beautiful view of the Bay of Bengal. The lighthouse has the distinction of being the only one in an Indian city to have an elevator! It houses the local meteorological department but is open to the public to allow visitors to enjoy the view.

The exterior is a triumph of colour and depth, thanks to the many statues adorning the sides of the temple. Inside, however, you can still see inscriptions dating back to the 12th century.
