1. Take a walk in the Medina




The Medina Tunis is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the historical heart of Tunis. The old city and the new one are separated by a main gate to admire; Bab el Bahr or the gate of the sea, built in 1848. Walk through the narrow streets between mosques, schools and Mausoleums. These small streets are full of splendid Fatimid and Ottoman architecture.


2. Visit the site of Carthage


The remains of ancient Carthage represent the maritime city of the Phoenicians. These ruins located on the Mediterranean coast offer an exceptional panorama. Relive through this ancient site the History of Tunis thanks to its ruins and museums. Also, don't miss the view from the top of the Byrsa hill.


3. Visit the Zitouna Mosque




The Zitouna Mosque is also called "Mosque of the Olive Tree". It is the second largest Mosque in Tunisia and is located in the heart of the Medina. The Mosque has beautiful examples of the religious architecture of the city. You can walk around the outer courtyard and go to the roof to admire the splendid mosaic works and the view. 


4. Visit the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Cathedral


In the new city of Tunis, there is an imposing building which is the Cathedral of Saint Vincent de Paul. It dates from the French colonial period in Tunis. Its style is gothic and neo-byzantine. It houses the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.



5. Visit the Bardo Museum




The Bardo Museum is the second largest museum in Tunisia. Its notoriety is due to its renowned collections. It houses rare pieces and Roman mosaic works. Treasures that have been discovered on sites located all over Tunisia. The Museum is large, you can easily devote half a day to it.


6. Visit the Sidi Mahrez Mosque


This Ottoman-style mosque is topped by 9 large white domes. It is the most beautiful mosque in the city. This religious building was built at the end of the 17th century and was the subject of a renovation plan in 1984.
