What to do during your stay in Venice

Venice is one of the most incredible cities in Italy. The City of the Doges has an impressive architectural and cultural heritage. This popular destination is also a well-known romantic landmark. Enjoy a stay of visits around its canals. Here is our top selection:

1. Visit Saint Mark's Basilica

Situated on St. Mark's Square, St. Mark's Basilica was built in the 11th century. Its architecture comes from oriental and western styles. Its interior is worth the detour, decorated with marble and gold, you can also admire more than 8500 m2 of mosaics.
Close to the facade of the Basilica, climb to the top of the Campanile tower which offers a breathtaking view of Venice.

2. Visit the Doge's Palace

A visit to Venice is not to be missed; the Doge's Palace, symbol of the power of the Republic. It was originally a 9th century fortified castle. You can visit this richly decorated Gothic style palace and you can also visit the prison which is accessed by the famous Bridge of Sighs. Last passage for those condemned to death.

3. Attend the Venice Carnival

One of the most famous Carnivals in the world with the one in Rio. This festival takes place 10 days before Ash Wednesday and lasts until Shrove Tuesday, that is to say 20 days of festivity. Disguise and mask yourself. You will attend many parades, concerts, performances, costume contests... If you are lucky enough to pass through Venice during this festive period, you won't be disappointed by the entertainment that will be offered.

4. See a performance at La Fenice Theater

We suggest you visit the La Fenice Theater or even attend an opera, concert or theater performance. Twice hit by fires, the Theater has kept its place. Its main hall is one of the most beautiful lyrical stages in the world. Great first major works have been performed there, and great composers have even dedicated works to it.

5. Take a tour of the Gondola

Embark on a gondola tour of the canals, guided by a Venetian. A bit cliché and touristy but it is a unique experience in the city of 177 canals and 475 bridges. If you're passing through Venice as a lover, what could be more romantic?

6. Visit the Guggenheim Museum

The museum is located along the Grand Canal. It presents one of the most beautiful collections of modern art in Europe. One can admire surrealist and abstract works. The Pegguy Guggenheim Foundation houses works by renowned artists such as Picasso, Dali, Braque, Pollock, Kandisky, Magritte... Art lovers will love this museum on a human scale that offers quality works.
