6 things to do in Valencia

Valencia has a lively old town and many historical and non-historical attractions. Let's discover some things to do in Valencia!

1- Watch the city from El Miguelete

The octagonal bell tower of the cathedral is a gothic Valencian construction begun in 1381 and completed just under 50 years later. Originally it was completely isolated from the cathedral, but enlargements at the end of 1400 united the two structures. If you feel fit, you can climb the 207 steps to the top to enjoy a wonderful view of the city. The bell tower owes its name to Miguel, the famous bell dating back to 1432 and weighing over ten tons.

2- Stroll around the Barrio del Carmen

The northeast side of the old town is the youngest and most bohemian part of the city. Among the cool, shady alleys of the neighborhood you will find buildings that have been transformed over time into trendy boutiques, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Calle de Caballeros, which starts in Plaza de la Virgen, is the ideal place to spend an evening of entertainment in Valencia.

3- Experience the historic center

Valencia
Like most of the historic centers of Spanish cities, the heart of Valencia is made to roam. All the places to visit in this part of the city are just a few minutes away from each other. Between each landmark there is a maze of narrow streets with cafes, restaurants and local services or craft stores. On the south side of the old town are the laPlaza de Toros and the spectacular ticket office of the Estació del Nord.

4- Relaxing in Jardín del Turia

This park will make you enjoy fresh air and relaxation right in the heart of the city. It was born in the 20th century, after the Turia River broke its banks in 1957, causing serious damage to the city. The river was diverted and in the 80s its riverbed in the city was turned into nine kilometers of greenery. Several landscape architects were involved in the construction of these gardens, creating a setting of pine forests, orange groves, palm trees and paths leading to sports facilities, play areas and fountains.

5- Visit the Central Market

Valencia
In front of the Silk Exchange there is another precious reference point, the Central Market. Although it dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, it blends perfectly with the historical architecture of this part of the old town. And if you feel like shopping at the market, you will find 400 small traders selling agricultural and seafood products at the best prices in the city.

6- Swimming in Malvarrosa

A few minutes from the old town you can sunbathe on a Mediterranean beach. The Malvarrosa is a wide strip of golden sand that stretches for a kilometer along the seafront of the city, equipped with everything you need to enjoy a day of sun and sea.
