6 things to do in Tirana

Tirana has Soviet-era buildings, novel designs, historical monuments, and a mountainous area on the edge of the city that invites exploration. Here are 6 things to do in Tirana!

1- Take the Dajti Ekspres

This cable car is a great way to get to know the city. The cable car stretches one kilometer and climbs over 800 meters up the side of the mountain. The trip takes about 15 minutes and there is a tourist complex at the top with restaurants and hotels. The views of the city will be memorable, but there are also several doable activities on site, including hiking and horseback riding in the summer, and skiing in the winter.

2- Explore Dajti National Park

A national park right on the doorstep of a capital city! Don't miss the chance to venture into the mountain range that forms the eastern border of Tirana. You can take the trail that connects Mount Dajti with Mount Tujani, which stands at 1,580 meters. This peak is the highest in the park and can be climbed on foot. The view from the top is will be the reward for the effort!

3- Relax at Grand Park

Tirana
Just south of Blloku district is Tirana's Grand Park, which is the best place in the city center to enjoy some fresh air. It covers 230 hectares and encloses a large artificial lake. The Presidential Palace and the graves of several Albanian national heroes are located here. Throughout the year you can find people fishing by the lake, while in the summer you can swim outdoors.

4- Admire the Clock Tower

The Clock Tower is certainly one of the most photographed landmarks in the city, especially when it is lit up at night. You can climb to the top for free using the tower's narrow spiral staircase and enjoy the stunning view of downtown Tirana.

5- Explore Pellumbas Cave

Tirana
Near the village of Pellumbas, a path starts that winds for two kilometers through the mountains before arriving at a cave full of stalactites and stalagmites, but also evidence of human activity dating back more than 300,000 years! It descends 350 meters down the side of the mountain, and during World War II was a shelter for the inhabitants of the village of Pellumbas.

6- Walk through Rruga Murat Toptani

A pedestrian street in the center of Tirana, Rruga Murat Toptani is a beautiful walk between the Palace of Parliament and the National Art Gallery. The name of this famous street comes from the Toptani family, who ruled Ottoman Albania from 1700 until World War II. Along the way, you can admire some of the city's ancient fortifications, dating back to the time when the Toptans vied for control of Tirana with other powerful local families.
