6 things to do in Phuket

With its wide variety of landscapes and natural environments, with mountains and plains, sheer cliffs and beaches, Phuket offers many activities to its visitors. Let's discover some of them!

1- Visit the Buddha of Nakkerd

This huge Buddha is one of the most famous landmarks in all of Phuket, sitting on top of the Nakkerd hills. From the top of the hill you can enjoy a panoramic view of the island. When you are at the Buddha you will notice that the area is very quiet, apart from the sound of dharma music and some bells. The Buddha is made of white Burmese marble and shines elegantly in the sun.

2- Taste the local rum

For all gourmets of spirits, Phuket produces an excellent rum. You can discover the details at Chalong Bay Rum Distillery. The company produces high quality white rum that is beginning to be noticed all over the world. There is a lot to do when you get to the distillery, start with a tour where you learn about the way rum is produced before you take a look at the work behind the scenes. The final part of the trip is in the cocktail lab and bar, here you will learn how to prepare various cocktails that all include Chalong Bay Rum and then relax while you taste them.

3- Attend a Thai boxing match

Phuket
Muay Thaï, the famous Thai boxing, guarantees you an electric atmosphere and a breathtaking spectacle. Even the inexperienced can admire the precision of the blows of this ancient martial art. But it is above all the effervescence that reigns in the place of the fight, where you will find mostly locals, that makes the fights a unique and authentic experience in this part of the world!

4- Go shopping at the weekend night market

Known by locals as Naka Market and located within walking distance of the city of Phuket is a night market like no other. There are a lot of things to buy, such as fruit, old curiosities, animals and clothes. A popular event among locals and tourists alike, it is best to arrive late in the afternoon to make sure you get a good look around before it gets crowded. Make the most of the cheap local foods for sale, such as buttered golden corn cob.

5- Take a trip to Wat Chalong

Phuket
For over a century Wat Chalong has been open to visitors and when you arrive there is much to see, starting with Poh Jao Wat. Probably the highlight of the visit will be the Great Pagoda which contains a small splinter of Buddha's bone. The pagoda is beautifully decorated with images of Buddha and paintings depicting his life story.

6- Observe the monkeys at Toh Sae Hill

Also known as Monkey Hill, it is the highest hill in the city of Phuket. There are about 400 macaques living on the hill and living in small groups throughout the area. Monkeys do not attack humans, but you need to keep an eye on your objects. The lower part of the hill houses a popular shrine among Thai people, many of whom come here to ask for lucky lottery numbers. The shrine is in honor of three different sacred spirits, Toh Sae Dang, Toh Sae Dam and Toh Sae Kaow.
