6 things to do in Milan

Milan is the most populated metropolitan area of Italy with 1.3 million inhabitants, and 3.2 million in the wider area surrounding the center of Milan. It is a city full of activities, let's discover some of them!

1- Shopping in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

Entering the Great Gallery, you might think you are inside the entrance of an opera house or palace, not a shopping mall. But essentially the Gallery is this: an extremely rich and elegant indoor shopping area! The Gallery is cross-shaped and is covered by four windows that let sunlight in perfectly, while the walls and facades of the stores are decorated with decorated panels and stuccoes. Even if you are not interested in shopping, the Gallery is worth a visit as one of the most iconic places in Milan.

2- Visit the Brera Art Gallery

Located in Palazzo Brera, the Pinacoteca is an art gallery that houses a vast collection of Italian art. In previous years the palace served as a convent and national library and was converted into a museum only in the 19th century. Inside the Pinacoteca you can find works such as Raphael's Marriage of the Virgin, Bellini's Pietà, Rubens' Last Supper and Correggio's Adoration of the Magi.

3- Walking at the Sforza Castle

Milan
This 15th century castle has a central location in Milan and is situated in a large park and garden. Created in 1370, the original design has been modified several times but still retains all its elegance. You can take a long walk inside and outside the castle enjoying the park and gardens that fill the whole area with greenery. And if you want to learn more about the history of Milan, do not miss the museums of the castle!

4- Relaxation at Parco Sempione

Among the most important parks in Milan, the Parco Sempione is a large public space located behind the Castello Sforzesco. Born in 1888, the park covers 95 hectares and contains the fantastic arch of peace. This wonderful place is beautifully landscaped and contains a myriad of paths, bike paths and wooded areas along with many ornate sculptures and fountains.

5- Stroll along the Naviglio Grande

Milan
Not everyone knows that Milan has two canals, one of which is the Naviglio Grande. This canal extends from Porta Ticinese to the Ticino River for about 50 km to the west. Originally built in 1177, the canal has been worked for many years and has continued to expand to what it is today. The stretch of canal located in the city center is a fantastic place to stroll and is lined with old buildings and a variety of stores and restaurants. Walk along a stretch of the canal and admire this different part of Milan full of life!

6- The Opera at La Scala Theatre

There are few buildings in the world that have hosted so many great artists like the Teatro alla Scala. Located north of the Duomo and east of the Castello Sforzesco, this opera house is one of the most beautiful in the world and is renowned for its acoustic qualities and aesthetics. Guided tours of the Opera House are available, but consider buying tickets to attend a performance - an exciting and memorable evening is guaranteed!
