6 things to do when visiting Lyon

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lyon is a city with a rich history and culture, with beautiful old districts and numerous museums.
We propose you 6 activities to do in Lyon during your visit:

1. Old Lyon

The Saint-Jean district is the historic part of the city. Part of its buildings date from the Medieval period but also from the Renaissance. You will be charmed by its cobbled streets and its atypical museums. You will find in Old Lyon, the Gadagne museum dedicated to the History of the city and the Miniatures and Cinema museum.
But during your diversion in Old Lyon, it is essential to admire the magnificent Saint-Jean Cathedral with its 14th century astronomical clock.

2. Les Traboules

A well-known specificity of Lyon, the Traboules are located in the Vieux Lyon and Croix Rousse districts. They are hundreds of crossings reserved for pedestrians who pass under houses and buildings to be able to cross from one street to another. Their architecture is truly unique and surprising. The longest Traboule is located at 54 rue Saint-Jean.

3. The Tête d'Or park

This popular tourist site is the largest park in the city. You will find many open-air activities such as visiting the zoo, the rose garden, the botanical garden, train rides, pedal boat hire on the lake...
This quiet and restful place is ideal for a family walk but also for sportsmen looking for a natural setting for their activities.

4. The Festival of Lights

Lyon is quite famous for the splendid festival of lights which takes place there at the beginning of December. This unmissable event has taken place since 1852. Don't miss this free festival in order to contemplate all the illuminations and luminous works of art projected on the facades of the monuments. In order to organise your illuminated walk as well as possible, go directly to the official site of the Festival of Lights.

5. The Museum of Fine Arts

We advise you to include a visit to the Fine Arts Museum as part of your Lyon getaway. The museum is located on the large Place des Terreaux. The building is a former Abbey; the Ladies of Saint-Pierre. This historical monument houses numerous collections of European paintings and sculptures. It is one of the most beautiful museums in France so treat yourself.

6. Les halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse

The halls are located next to the Part-Dieu train station. This huge covered market is the place to taste the best local specialities. You will find many delicatessens, chocolate makers, pastry chefs, cheese makers and caterers. These shops offer quality products. Don't hesitate to taste the typical Lyon praline tart!
