6 things to do in Cancun

Cancun is full of activities for its visitors. You can set foot on tropical islands, sail on rafts across rivers and visit Mayan cities such as the world famous Chichén Itzá.

1- Visit Xcaret

Along the Mayan Riviera you will find Xcaret, a cultural and activity park combined with authentic pre-Hispanic ruins and a chance to see Mayan craftsmen at work and a Mesoamerican ball game in the Gran Tlacho theater, seating 6,000. During the construction of Xcaret some caves created by underground rivers were discovered, and you can snorkel in their waters.

2- Climb the Escénica Tower

If you have visited Xcaret, you can enter this observation tower in Cancun for free. The highest point of the entire city, the tower has a rotating capsule that rises up to 80 meters above sea level. From here you can enjoy a wonderful view, explained in detail by the staff of the tower.

3- Dive

Cancun
If you take into account the clarity of the water, warm temperatures, reefs, marine life, you can easily understand why Cancun is rich in dive centers. Divers can choose from dozens of sites and unforgettable encounters with dolphins, whale sharks, bull sharks or sea turtles. The caves along the Mayan Riviera to the south have been equipped for diving and many of them have only recently been explored for the first time.

4- Visit the Subacuático De Arte Museum

This underwater museum off the west coast of Isla Mujeres was opened in 2009. Slowly, corals and other marine life began to settle on the museum's sculptures, designed by British artist Jason deCaires Taylor. There are more than 500 works submerged in 400 square meters of shallow sea. These pieces can be viewed from a glass bottom boat if you prefer to stay dry, but most people opt for snorkeling and scuba diving to get a better view.

5- Admiring Ik Kil

Cancun
The limestone rock of the Yucatán Peninsula is dotted with underground rivers, which have dug caves over time, some of which have collapsed, leaving open pools. Ik Kil, located near Chichén Itzá, is an open basin 25 meters below the forest floor and 60 meters in diameter. A unique natural spectacle, you can also dive into the water from the stone steps.

6- Relax in Playa Chac Mool

Playa Chac Mool is a welcome and less touristy alternative to resorts and private beaches. Here you will not find the typical beach bars but just a few umbrellas and a deckchair to rent. Some people take advantage of the waves to surf offshore, while the first part of the sea is shallow and clean.
