6 things to do in Budapest

Visitors to Budapest have a wide range of different things to do, let's discover some of them!

1- Gellért Baths

One of the largest spas in the city is the Gellert spa, which includes an outdoor pool, Finnish sauna and a number of other saunas and diving pools. The complex was originally built between 1912 and 1918 in Art Nouveau style, but suffered serious damage during World War II. The entire spa was extensively renovated in 2008 to restore the baths to their former glory.

2- Promenade on the Danube

The stretch of the Danube from Elizabeth Bridge to Chain Bridge is perfect for those who want a short but interesting walk. Walking along the Danube is a great way to see many of the most famous places in the capital. Walking you will see Buda Castle, the Statue of Liberty on Gellert Hill and the Fisherman's Bastion.

3- Visit the Fishermen's Bastion

Budapest
Although the Fishermen's Bastion has the appearance of a medieval monument, it was actually built at the beginning of the 20th century in neo-Gothic style, in particular to serve as a viewing platform over the Danube, Margaret Island and Pest. It takes its name from the Guild of Fishermen, responsible for the defense of that part of the city walls in the Middle Ages.

4- Cellar Faust

This historic wine cellar, located below Buda Castle, is the perfect place to taste the wines of some of Hungary's 22 wine regions. You will also have the opportunity to taste the traditional Hungarian fruit palinka. A sommelier will give you tasting notes during your visit, so that you can get the most out of every wine you try.

5- Visit the Dohány Street Synagogue

Budapest
This synagogue is currently one of the largest in the world outside Israel. The interior and the garden were restored in the 1990s, with much of the funding coming from the Hungarian Jewish population around the world. In the garden you can see a monument depicting a weeping willow tree, whose metal leaves bear the name of some of the victims of the war.

6- Ecseri Flea Market

This fantastic flea market on the outskirts of the city is a great place to find unique items, from retro clothing to communist memorabilia. Even if you are not going to buy anything, you can still wander around the stalls for hours and enjoy some local life.
