4 things to see during a visit to Lyon

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lyon is a city with a rich history and culture, with beautiful old districts and numerous museums.
We suggest 4 things to see in Lyon during your visit:

1. The Fourvièvre hill

Large stairs lead to the top of the hill but for the less sporty there is also a funicular that can be taken from the Vieux-Lyon metro station. At the top of the hill you will enjoy a grandiose panorama of the whole city with the Mont-Blanc in the background. At the top of the hill is the Basilica of Fourvièvre which is the religious symbol of Lyon. You will also notice beside it a "little Eiffel Tower".

2. The Place Bellecour

A place not to be missed during your stay in Lyon. It is the largest pedestrian square in Europe. In the centre of the square, a statue of Louis XIV on his horse is enthroned. The buildings on the square were classified as "Monuments Historiques" in 1930.

3. The Confluence district

The renovated Confluence district is the contemporary place to be in Lyon. It is an eco-district with many shops, homes and offices.
What you have to see in this district is mainly its Museum with a futuristic architecture which proposes exhibitions on the origins of life.

4. The Croix Rousse district

This area is considered a village. It has a rich history. In the past, it was here that the silk workers used to be. The buildings have large windows and high ceilings, because in those days large weaving machines had to be housed here. For this reason, we recommend a visit to the "Maison des Canuts", a former workshop. You can also admire the fresco of the Canuts, which represents the atmosphere of the time.
