4 things to see in Tenerife

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz, Teide, Playa de las Americas, are just some of the reasons why the island of Tenerife is the most visited by tourists from all the Canary Islands! Here are 4 things to see in Tenerife:

1- Giant cliffs

On the western tip of the island of Tenerife are the cliffs of the giants - in Buenavista del Norte and Santiago del Teide. In the times of the Guanches they were known as "the wall of hell" and still are today, with a height that in some places reaches 600 meters above the sea and the dark color of its volcanic lava. The bottom of the cliffs, about 30 meters deep, is still home to a great variety of underwater life.

2- A prehistoric forest

It is not every day that you can walk in a forest millions of years old. The Laurisilva forest on the peaks of Anaga is a testimony of the tertiary era on the island of Tenerife. To give you an idea of the antiquity of the forest, the dinosaurs were extinct in the previous era, at the end of the Cretaceous, in the Secondary Era.

3- An outdoor museum

Tenerife
If you have ever walked the streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, you will have noticed the amount of sculptures that decorate them. They are works that were part of the International Exhibition of Street Art in 1973. 43 sculptors participated in that event, some of them known as Joan Miró, Henry Moore, Ossip Zadkine, Alicia Penalba or Marino Marini. 30 of their works can still be seen today in García Sanabria Park, Santa Cruz Rambla, Viera y Clavijo Cultural Park, Las Indias Park, Anaga Avenue and 25 de Julio Avenue. Among them the Femme Bouteille, the Bottle Woman by Joan Miró or the Warrior of Goslar by Henry Moore.

4- The Sea of Clouds

In addition to the ocean that surrounds its 342 kilometers of coastline, in Tenerife there is a sea of height: the sea of clouds. The trade winds push the clouds along the north coast, forming a compact surface of clouds - stratocumulus to be exact - between 500 and 1,500 meters high. On the road to Cañadas del Teide there are several viewpoints to enjoy this natural wonder.
