4 things to see in Crete
The fifth largest island in the Mediterranean, Crete was the birthplace of the oldest European civilization! Let's discover some things to see in Crete.1- Knossos
Just a few kilometers south of the modern capital of Crete, Heraklion was the capital of Minoan Crete. Knossos is the name of the palace and its vast city, which had up to 100,000 inhabitants in the 18th century BC. The palace was built about 3,000 years ago and in Greek mythology appears as the seat of King Minos, where he had Daedalus build a labyrinth to house his son, the Minotaur. The site was first excavated in 1900 by British archaeologist Arthur Evans, who restored some of the architecture and frescoes. Here you can admire the large courtyard where the royal family entertained guests, and enter the Throne Room.
2- Elafonisi Beach
Elafonisi beach is to be considered one of the best in the world. The beach is a nature reserve on the channel between the mainland and Elafonisi, a rectangular island famous for the pink sand of its beaches.
