4 things to see in Antananarivo

Even if you only stay for a couple of days the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo, offers some attractions worth visiting. Here are some things to see in Antananarivo!

1- The Rova of Antananarivo

Perched on top of a hill, the Rova di Antananarivo is one of the symbols of the Kingdom of Imerina. Inside the royal enclosure there is a church and several palaces, including the Queen's Palace. After the fire of 1995, the Rova was rebuilt and still remains a place worth visiting to enjoy the breathtaking view of the city below.

2- The Court of Ambatondrafandrana

This is the court that Queen Ranavalona II commissioned in 1881. Built without walls by James Parret, it is inspired by the Greek-Ionian style of architecture with its 16 columns.

3- The Prime Minister's Palace

Antananarivo
Built in 1872, the Prime Minister's Palace replaced what was originally a wooden building. Burned down and restored in 1976, it is home to a permanent exhibition of the personal effects and royal accessories of the Queen's Palace in the Rova di Antananarivo, also destroyed by a terrible fire.

4- Andohalo Square

Andohalo Square was the site of the first market on Friday and, before its inauguration, all official monarchical ceremonies were held here. On October 14, 1958, the birth of the Republic of Madagascar was proclaimed there.
