4 things to see in Alicante

Alicante is the capital of the tourist region of Costa Blanca, in eastern Spain. Let's discover 4 things to see in Alicante!

1- Santa Barbara Castle

The Santa Barbara Castle is a fortress of medieval Arab origin. The most recent restorations took place in the 1500s, but you will also find traces of the Moorish era. From the Castle you can enjoy a complete panorama of Alicante, the Mediterranean and the region.

2- Explanada de España

Alicante's marble-lined promenade begins in the old town and continues along the sea next to the marina. As you walk along the Explanada under the palm trees, you'll be able to watch the daily life of the city unfold around you on terraces and market stalls. From here you will also enjoy a beautiful view of the coast and the refreshing air of the sea.

3- Basilica of Santa Maria

Alicante
The oldest and most beautiful church in town is located near the foot of the mountain and a short walk from Postiguet beach. Like many churches in Spain, Santa María was built on a former mosque after the reconquest of the city in the 13th century. The first thing you'll notice are the twin towers: the one on the right is from the 1300s, while the one on the left is actually from the 1800s, although they look identical.

4- Casco Antiguo

The old part of Alicante is a neighborhood on the side of the hill below the castle, made up of steep streets and stairways between the whitewashed walls of historic buildings. Locals decorate their balconies and doorways with fresh flowers and paint the shutters blue and green, creating a very charming mix of colors.
