4 dishes to enjoy in Bali

Bali is full of activities and attractions to visit but also of typical dishes to taste! Here are our tips on the 4 dishes to try during a trip to Bali:

1- Nasi Campur

Nasi Campur is one of the most popular Indonesian dishes. It consists of a handful of rice and a variety of side dishes, ingredients and condiments. Most of the time it is served as a buffet, where customers are free to choose from a wide range of seasoning options. Commonly it includes curry, fried or stewed meat, fried fish or shrimp, an assortment of vegetable, egg and soya pancakes. One of the most famous variants is the Balinese one, to try!

2- Babi Guling

One of Bali's most famous cultural dishes is Babi Guling (spit-roasted pork). The pig is stuffed with a complete mix of spices and roasted on a low heat until the skin becomes crunchy and the meat succulent, usually cut into thin slices. A delicacy for meat lovers!

3- Bebek Betutu

The bebek betutu (Balinese smoked duck), is one of the most famous traditional dishes of the island of the gods. The process for its preparation is long and complex, a kind of ritual. The outside of the duck is rubbed and massaged with a mixture of roots, herbs, spices and vegetables - the duck is then stuffed with the rest of the mixture and, once prepared, wrapped in banana leaves, or, more traditionally, in sheets of sliced banana stem, bamboo, coconut bark or in the shell of a palm branch. It is then buried in a steaming pyre and cooked under the ground very slowly for a period of three to eight hours. It becomes so tender that it melts in your mouth!

4- Sate Lilit

Lemongrass skewers on which minced meat is wrapped, grilled to perfection and served with hot pepper sauce. Sate Lilit is a very popular dish from the island of Bali. Traditionally, lemongrass stalks are used as skewers instead of bamboo skewers, but you can also commonly find them in the bamboo variant. A dish to try at least once on a trip to Bali!
